The laureates of the “Global Lithuanian Awards 2013” will be announced and honoured in the Presidential Palace on the 3rd of January, 2014. At the event initiated by the “Global Lithuanian Leaders” for the second year running a number of highly accomplished individuals with years of international experience will be awarded for their contribution to the growth of Lithuania and the promotion of the name of Lithuania through their professional activities and achievements. “This year we sought to invite more members of the public and various organizations to nominate potential candidates hoping to discover yet unheard-of personalities and their success stories,” – said Kotryna Stankutė-Jaščemskienė, the head of GLL.

As many as 41 individuals, currently residing in 13 different countries, were nominated for this year’s award. The countries of residence are Lithuania, USA, the United Kingdom, Israel, Canada, Switzerland, Australia, Italy, China, Malaysia, Norway, the Czech Republic, and the South African Republic.

The nominations and the nominees of the 2013 awards are the following:

Promotion of Lithuanian exports: Angelė Kavakienė, Ingrida Bublys, Diana Plačiakienė, Paulius Kunčinas, Paulius Lukauskas, Remis Bistras.

Attraction of investments: Brian Joffe, Marius Jakulis Janson, Saulius Karosas, Cynthia J.Pasky.

Implemented international innovations: Augustinas, Kristijonas and Dominykas Vizbaras, Mykolas Majauskas, Jonas Duncia, Rimas Juškaitis. Dalia Ibelhauptaitė. Jonas Cicėnas.

Encouragement of youth leadership: Milda Dargužaitė, Rūta Laukien, Donatas Tijūnėlis.

Brain exchange: Ignas Budvytis, John Mack, Angela Sinickas, Joseph Press, Egle Gerrick, Daiva Naravaitė.

Friend of Lithuania: Jon Bradford, Edward Lucas, Aage Myhre, John Ohman, Rathindra Bose, Ake Stenquistas, Judith Lewonig, Vítězslav Mikeš.

World Lithuanian 2013: Violeta Urmana, Martynas Levickis, Viktoras Jucikas and Rytis Vitkauskas, Laimonas Briedis, Marius Markevičius, Julija Sukys, Icchokas Meras, Ernestas Zacharevičius.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania will reward a renowned Lithuanian personality for his or her lifetime achievements.

In addition, a young but highly accomplished professional promoting the name of Lithuania globally will be awarded under the nomination of the “Global Young Talent”.

The nominees and winners are selected by the specially formed committee consisting of the last year’s GLL award-winners, GLL board members, the representatives of the partners, and other professionals with international experience: Dr. Victor Sniečkus, Dr. Vladas Lašas, Dr. Antanas Mockus, Ray Bartkus, Mindaugas Glodas, Gintė Bernadeta Damušis, Andrius Tapinas, Raimundas Daubaras, and Rūta Skyrienė.

The essential criteria for the election are close relations with Lithuania, measurable achievements and efforts contributing to the development of Lithuania in the areas of business, science and culture as well as to spreading the name of the country globally. The winners will receive statuettes by the sculptor Stasys Žirgulis.

“Global Lithuanian Awards” are initiated by the network of the Lithuanian professional diaspora “Global Lithuanian Leaders” together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, the non-profit organisation “Enterprise Lithuania” and the telecommunications company TEO LT. The aim of the GLL network is to get the professionals who live abroad involved in a variety of projects and to make use of their experience, connections, and knowledge in order to strengthen the international reach of the Lithuania’s name.

The awards ceremony will be broadcast live on the national TV and the news portal DELFI.
