On April 25-26, the first Pragmatonas workshop took place. On introductory Friday night, more than fifty young ambitious idea-driven professionals were greeted and inspired by GLL team and Algirdas Kaušpėdas. He addressed the audience with encouragement to look, think, act beyond the geographical borders and strive for cooperation among global Lithuanians in all spheres.

Saturday was planned as the day of pure brainstorming, analysis and conclusion at Rupert, a Center of Art and Education. Sixty participants flocked into seven teams and devoted their day to seven most attractive ideas of diaspora involvement measures. They included:

  • network of alumni of leading universities,
  • positive PR campaign of Lithuania addressed to diaspora of all generations,
  • summer camps for local and diaspora teenagers,
  • molecular diplomacy,
  • network of regional alumni for projects in the region of origin,
  • genealogy for family reunion
  • talent reemigration

After sessions of brainstorming, inspiring meetings with visiting mentors (Justas, Gavėnas, Jurgis Didžiulis, Ariana Rastauskaitė, Dainius Adomėnas, Ingrida Šimonytė, Mykolas Majauskas, Tadas Langaitis, Mykolas Lepeška), artistic breaks, inter-team reality checks, sunbathing and hiking, the teams presented the projects for the discussion among the teams and further implementation.

Now GLL has the obligation to evaluate the outcome from three points of view: viability, desirability and feasibility; investigate financing options and find inspired drivers for their development.
