2021-05-06
Award given out to Lithuanian Professionals in GermanyLEO in Berlin club continues connecting and engaging Lithuanian professionals all over Germany. Together with the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Germany they established an Award to acknowledge the exceptional work of Lithuanian professionals promoting economic relations between Germany and Lithuania. The first Award was presented to GLL Patron Dr. Kęstutis Bagdonavičius at the “German Lithuanian Professionals Forum 2021”, held online in April.
“Over the past 3 years, we have witnessed some of the most profound changes in the Lithuanian Professionals community in Germany. LEO in Berlin club grew immensely, expanding our network across German cities and industries. We built unbreakable bridges from Berlin to Frankfurt, across NGOs to Startups. German Lithuanian Professionals Forum became a cherished annual tradition, where we meet to network and learn from each other. Even as the leadership changes, these traditions will continue to grow and flourish,” said Rūta Naujokaitė, President of LEO in Berlin club.
For the first time, the idea of Forum was developed and brought to life last year in a creative collaboration of Šarūnė Šablevičienė, Economic Attaché, and co-founders of LEO in Berlin club Rūta and Vytautė Rimkute. This year, it already attracted as many as 1.000 live viewers on Facebook.

“This event is a great example of collaboration between the Economic Attaché, Embassy and the local club of professionals for engaging Lithuanian diaspora into the development of Lithuania. I hope it serves as inspiration for embassies and clubs in other countries too,” – said Aušra Kukelkaitė, head of “Global Lithuanian Leaders” network. This time the Forum focused on the topic of sustainable development and aimed to share best practices in both countries in order to strengthen collaboration in the field.
“When talking about innovative sectors, it is very important to have a platform for the exchange of new ideas and imagining the future of Lithuania in the context of those global innovations. This Forum proves Lithuanian professionals in Germany are ready to contribute,” – said Giedrius Jokūbauskis, First Secretary at the Lithuanian embassy.

The event gathered 21 speakers from Lithuanian and Germany with expertise in Sustainable Development for 3 panel discussions:
> Green Cities
> Food Waste
> Green Energy.

Panelists gave their forecasts for the future of sustainable development, its influence to the position of Lithuania in the global arena. Key takeaways from the discussions are being prepared and will be published shortly.
The Forum culminated with the announcement of the first Award Laureate – GLL Patron Dr. Kęstutis Bagdonavičius. He was acknowledged for his work in strengthening the ties between Lithuanian and German companies, active participation in chambers of commerce both in Germany and the Baltic states, and contributions to creating networks of Lithuanian professionals globally. Kęstutis was awarded a handmade sculpture by the artist Domilė Ragauskaitė.
