The Global Lithuanian Awards ceremony took place on 27 December 20012 at the Presidential Palace. Awards aimed to celebrate Lithuanians and Lithuania–connected (by origin or other affiliation) people living overseas, who exhibit remarkable talent, exceptional vision, ambition and who are current or future leaders and innovators in their chosen field.

President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė  opened the evening and gave the award to prof.  Algirdas Aviežienis for his life time achievement in the internationalization of Lithuanian academic life.
They are the only awards to recognise not only the important contributions of more than one million of Lithuanians living abroad but also to receive their ideas how to create a globally successful Lithuania and their promise for future engagement.

Many of Lithuania – connected professionals residing abroad are known as highly accomplished individuals recognized on a global scale. These people have also established themselves as dedicated informal Ambassadors of Lithuania.

The awards strive to build a culture that fosters these globally oriented achievements among Lithuanians and Lithuanian businesses. It supports new ideas, development of modern technologies, products and services oriented to compete in the global market along with other activities intended to growing a stronger, more competitive Lithuania and building a more open and forward – thinking society.

The Awards are initiated by GLL | Global Lithuanian Leaders in close cooperation with its partners. GLL is a high impact networking platform and source of opportunities for Lithuania – connected professionals in the world.
