In Lithuania, dual citizenship is currently allowed only in certain cases provided by law—most often related to historical emigration before 11 March 1990, deportation/exile, or when another citizenship is acquired automatically at birth. Broader legalization of dual citizenship depends on the results of a constitutional referendum; so far, the referendums that have taken place have failed due to insufficient voter turnout.

During this event, we invite you to look at the topic from both a practical and a personal perspective.

• A Lithuanian who has lived in the United States for many years and who left Lithuania with his family and retained Lithuanian citizenship under an exception provided by law (due to the deportation/exile of ancestors);
• A lawyer who has been working with citizenship issues for more than a decade.

– which documents and evidence are most important;
– the most common practical mistakes;
– realistic timelines and expectations for the process;
– how dual citizenship can make returning to Lithuania easier or living between countries more manageable.
